Verify before you go. Alerts, track status, camping and fees change. Always check
Queensland Parks — Glass House Mountains
and
park alerts
the morning you travel. This planner is independent and unofficial — not Queensland Parks, not QPWS, not the
Queensland Government. Emergency:
000.
Snapshot checked 21 August 2026 (not live).
No day-entry fee was listed on official Glass House Mountains pages when re-checked. Camping is
not permitted inside this national park. Nearby Coochin Creek (Beerwah State Forest) uses the statewide
camping schedule from 1 July 2026: $7.75 per person per night or
$31.00 per family per night (confirm live). QPWS does not publish a blanket coverage map. Re-check
official pages before you lock a plan. This site does not show live closures.
Mount Coonowrin is Restricted Access — closed, on-the-spot fines. Do not enter. Do not climb.
A view from Ngungun or Mountain View lookout is not permission. Wet volcanic rock is very slippery; heat radiates
off stone. Clean footwear for Phytophthora dieback at every trailhead. Traditional Owners (Kabi Kabi / Gubbi
Gubbi and Jinibara) ask visitors not to climb sacred peaks.

3. Which shape today?
Family / mixed: circuit + lookout
- Drive — ~70 km / ~1 hour from Brisbane via Bruce Highway / Steve Irwin Way.
- 0:00 — Tibrogargan trailhead (toilets, picnic tables, some accessible).
- 0:15–0:35 — Mountain View lookout (~1 km / 20 min) or full Tibrogargan Circuit (4.1 km, Grade 3, 1.5 hr).
- Optional — Glass House Mountains Lookout in Beerburrum West State Forest (separate drive, not this NP).
- Clean footwear. Reverse before dark. Not Ngungun. Not Coonowrin.
Fit first visit: Ngungun Summit
- Early start — Grade 4, 2.8 km return, allow 2 hr (QPWS).
- Separate trailhead: Coonowrin Road / Fullertons Road (~3 km from township).
- Turn around at the first viewpoint if wet, cloudy or nerves.
- Daylight hours only. Do not add Yul-yan-man after a late summit.
- Coonowrin in the view is not a route — Restricted Access, fines.
4. Decision tree / order of stops
First visit / mixed fitness / limited time
Tibrogargan Circuit (or Mountain View lookout only) + picnic. Optional state-forest lookout. Leave Ngungun and Yul-yan-man for another day.
Fit walkers, early start
Ngungun Summit morning. Picnic in township or at Tibrogargan only if energy and light still look honest — not a Grade 5 add-on.
Brisbane day trip
One trailhead. Reverse clock from the moment you leave the city. No in-park night to “save the drive.”
Two-peak day (honest stacking only)
Ngungun first, Tibrogargan second — only if you started early and both groups still have legs. Separate car parks.
Experienced scramble
Yul-yan-man Grade 5. Extra water, a leave-by time, consider a PLB. Skip if rain, fire or extreme heat. Not Coonowrin.
Overnight nearby (not this NP)
Gateway beds: Glass House Mountains, Beerwah, Beerburrum, Landsborough, Caboolture, Caloundra, Maleny, Brisbane. Official tent night: Coochin Creek (state forest) via qld.gov.au/camping only.
5. Access & comms
- Most visitors self-drive. About 70 km / ~1 hour north of Brisbane. Limited public transport; Beerburrum station is near some trailheads.
- Separate sealed 2WD trailheads — no through-road across the park. Ngungun is not Tibrogargan is not Beerburrum.
- Visitor and Interpretive Centre is in the township (Settler’s Rotary Park) — outside the park boundary.
- QPWS does not publish a blanket coverage map. 000 needs reception. Install Emergency+ on town Wi-Fi.
- The official Yul-yan-man page advises a fully charged phone and considering a PLB; coverage on exposed rock can be variable.
- Nearest services: township, Beerwah, Caboolture. Trailheads are not shops.
6. Overnight extras (if camping nearby)
- ☐ Confirm you are not camping inside Glass House Mountains National Park
- ☐ Coochin Creek (Beerwah State Forest) booked via qld.gov.au/camping or 13 13 04 only
- ☐ Booking tag printed or screenshot and displayed
- ☐ Gateway hotel / cabin if you travel with a dog (no pets in the NP except certified assistance animals)
- ☐ Treat this as a day-walk park — pack out rubbish from trailheads
- ☐ No generators / no fires except where official camping rules allow on the state-forest site
7. Safety non-negotiables
- Mount Coonowrin is Restricted Access — closed, fines.
- Wet rock, cliff edges and heat on volcanic stone are the real summit hazards.
- Watch the official safety video before Grade 4 / Grade 5 days.
- Clean footwear at every trailhead — Phytophthora dieback spreads in soil.
- Do not stack Yul-yan-man onto a first afternoon.
- Traditional Owners ask visitors not to climb sacred peaks — treat published tracks as the respectful option.
- Do not feed wildlife.
- Emergency: call 000 if you have reception. This planner cannot help with rescue.
